Q & A: Why Recover?
Recover or Buy New?
We get this question a lot—and the answer really depends on your specific needs.
Some businesses choose to recover their furniture to better match a cohesive interior design or to reflect their brand identity more effectively. Others prioritise sustainability, opting to update and reuse existing pieces rather than sending them to landfill. In many cases, the furniture they already own—like a set of chairs or built-in seating—is no longer in production, making replacement difficult or inconsistent.
Ultimately, there are many reasons why a business might choose to recover rather than buy new. One of the most compelling is cost: recovering can be incredibly economical, especially for bulk projects, potentially saving thousands of dollars. It also saves time—recoveries often have quicker turnaround times compared to ordering new furniture, which can involve long lead times and staggered deliveries.
Is recovering worth it? And how does it compare in price?
Recovering your existing furniture is often a significantly more affordable option compared to buying new—especially when you're furnishing a commercial space like a café, restaurant, or office.
For example, buying 30 new dining chairs at $400 each would cost around $12,000. Recovering those same chairs at roughly half the price—about $200 each—would cost just $6,000. That’s a $6,000 saving, all while keeping your existing frames and refreshing your space with a unique fabric.
